Flood Analysis Using HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS: A Case Study of Khazir River (Middle East—Northern Iraq)

چکیده

Floods frequently threaten villages near the Khazir River’s floodplains, causing crop losses and threatening residential areas. We used flood-related hydrological software, including WMS HEC-HMS, to study this issue determine how reduce recurrence of flooding. The software can be calculate a hydrograph torrential flows in river drainage basin estimate volume water its flow rates on Earth’s surface. depth rain has been evaluated calculated SCS Unit Hydrograph for different return periods 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 years. According our study’s findings, river’s floods ranged between 29,680 2,229,200 m3, maximum value 10.4 66.4 m3/sec during various reference periods. To analyze model flood risks River, HEC-RAS was combined with HEC-GeoRAS extension ArcGIS. were focus two periods, 2013 2018, based digital elevation discharge floods. classification map depths, areas risk varied from low very (80.31%), medium (16.03%), high (3.8%). analysis results revealed that closest mouth more affected by than other further downstream. HEC-HMS have shown strong correlation evaluating reliably forecasting future area.

Use of HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS models with ArcView for hydrologic risk management

The paper discusses how the well known USACE HEC models, RAS and HMS, are fully integrated within the decision support system of the Romagna River Basins in order to predict flood effects. The models are fully available from the web and cope with such a variety of problems as rainfall-runoff modeling, river and civil works hydraulics, and the mapping of hydraulic hazard. The paper illustrates t...

A Dam Break Analysis Using HEC-RAS

This paper firstly described the dam break in the aspects of theories and models. Break parameters prediction, the understanding of dam break mechanics, peak outflow prediction were shown as the essential for the dam break analysis, and eventually determined the loss of the damages. Secondly, as an application example, Foster Joseph Sayers Dam break was further modeled and analyzed using USACE ...

Regional scale flood modeling using NEXRAD rainfall, GIS, and HEC-HMS/RAS: a case study for the San Antonio River Basin Summer 2002 storm event.

This paper develops a framework for regional scale flood modeling that integrates NEXRAD Level III rainfall, GIS, and a hydrological model (HEC-HMS/RAS). The San Antonio River Basin (about 4000 square miles, 10,000 km2) in Central Texas, USA, is the domain of the study because it is a region subject to frequent occurrences of severe flash flooding. A major flood in the summer of 2002 is chosen ...

Roughness uncertainty analysis in river flooding using HEC-RAS model

Although flood maps based on the deterministic approach play an important role in minimizing flood losses, there is considerable uncertainty in calculating the level of water inundation. Roughness is a key parameter in water surface elevation. Since roughness is not easily measurable and is estimated based on experimental and laboratory methods, it introduces a significant degree of uncertainty...

Hydrologic Modeling System (hec-hms):

Many cities have been built along large rivers. The rivers can provide a source of drinking water, act as receiving water for treated effluent, provide navigation for shipping, and other beneficial uses. However, the city must also be protected from flooding due to the close proximity to the river. Hydrologic analysis plays a crucial role in the development of plans for protecting a river city....
